Everyone is different, but I prefer the "big five" barbell lifts at the core of my workouts. After years of not having a plan and doing all kinds of stuff from split routines to P90X, I finally stumbled on Stonglifts 5x5. I pretty much use barbell squats, bench press, overhead press, dead lifts, and Pendlay rows as the foundation of my lifting. I throw in pull-ups, chin-ups, some (but not nearly enough) sprinting, and some swimming. Here is my workout log:
