Back To Work

Kind of tough to get going this morning after a holiday weekend. I did get a decent amount of sleep but I felt a touch of that Monday morning work stress. I made sure to take my daily 5g dose of creatine as soon as I got out of bed per usual.

Duke-logoI pretty much followed my version of Primal/Paleo eating today and didn’t forget to take my vitamins! After work I got after it in the gym which definitely helped with the stress, but I couldn’t even make it to the tip off of the NCAA final game…oh well, sleep is more important to me! :)

Another Monday in the books–as always…

Finally Friday!

It’s been a long week and Friday is finally here! My wife returned yesterday from her trip–it’s good to have her home. :) I woke up completely exhausted due to lack of sleep as, according to my FitBit One tracker, I logged less than six hours last night–that’s horrible. :( I’ve been relying heavily on my all-natural energy drink, Celsius, to power me through this week–man, I love caffeine! :)

I use this handy tool to track my sleep.

If you’ve been following along, I’ve have a pretty good week in terms of keeping my eating close to my version of a Primal/Paleo diet. My hope is nourishing my body with the right food and supplementing with the highest quality vitamins will help combat the stress and lack of sleep.

Since today is Friday, my son and I are doing our Friday splurge–Five Guys burgers and fries! Yum!

five-guysLooking forward to the weekend and catching up with my workout tomorrow. Hope your work week is ending on a positive note and, as always…

Feeling Refreshed!

Woke up feeling fantastic this morning for two reasons:

  1. I finally got enough sleep–over eight hours according to my FitBit One tracker.
  2. Get to go to the gym and catch up on the workout I missed yesterday.

My choice for pre and intra-workout BCAAs!

My morning looked a lot like a Friday morning: ketosis test first thing (tested in a ketogenic state), took my daily 5g of creatine, drank my pre-workout drinks, Celsius energy drink and BCAAs, on the way to the gym.

In keeping with my practice of intermittent fasting, I ate my first meal around 2:30pm and then my final meal about 7:30pm. The morning make up workout included a bunch of squats and I think my body craved protein as a result. :) So, I ended up eating nearly 2,500 estimated calories and, looking back, the vegetables seem to be missing! I’m not worried because I made sure to take my daily vitamins to fill in the nutritional holes.

Sure hope your weekend is going great and, as always…

Eat Food, Repeat

I love leftovers. :) I’m not sure why, but this latest batch of spaghetti squash turned out excellent! I had the last of it for lunch today and I told my wife how sad I am it’s all gone. Oh well, I can make more.

Another busy day where I realized at 7:30pm I probably should get up from the computer and eat. I ended up making bacon and eggs for dinner…who doesn’t occasionally feel like breakfast for dinner?

I woke up feeling a little tired this morning–the lack of sleep is catching up to me.  My alarm woke me up this morning which rarely happens –I usually just wake up. If I don’t start getting more sleep I might end up sick. In  addition to my daily handful of vitamins I’ve been adding an extra dose of Vitamin C to hedge. My answer to a sleepy morning is a jolt of  caffeine via my favorite all-natural energy drink, Celsius–I love it!

A very good day nutritionally with the foods falling in line with my version of Primal/Paleo eating. For some reason I failed to drink my water today–I try to drink a minimum of 64 oz. per day…not sure what happened with that.

I hope your week is going great and, as always…

Special Day, Skipped Cake

Today is my daughter’s 16th birthday! I’m in a state of shock when I think my little girl can legally drive a car 😉 In our house it seems that birthdays become less of a “spectacle” the older the kids get. School, homework, and going to dance rehearsal all continue despite today being my little girl’s special day. Consequently, we left the house at 6am for the bus stop and she did not arrive home until after 9pm–not a whole lot of time for celebration. :(

My wife did have a special dinner and a cake for her which was nice. I managed to skip the cake, mostly because, in keeping with intermittent fasting routine, I ate my final meal a couple of hours before the cake cutting.

Otherwise my food choices were mostly good, with the exception of eating too many corn chips with the leftover guacamole and buffalo chicken dip. Staying away from grains, including corn, is quite difficult for me. I certainly did not consume the leafy greens I had intended (but I did take my daily supplements).

Hope your week is rolling along nicely and, as always…

Friday Feasting

It’s Friday of my first full work week of 2015. I wonder how this week could scream by until today it seemed to take forever? In any case, I’m ready for the weekend for sure.

Today’s schedule was packed with meeting after meeting. Was so busy I forgot to take my daily vitamins/supplements (which is rare). :( Some of my food choices were good, some horrible! :) Oh well, no big deal, not gonna stress over my Friday Five Guys indulgence!

I hope your week ended positively and, as always…

Pro Football, Sort Of?

Today my wife, both kids, and I all managed to attend the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football game. We went out to lunch before the game and then watched the bumbling Bucs lose at home, again, due to silly mistakes. It’s quite frustrating to watch a team get into game winning field position not once, but twice, only to commit stupid penalties backing them up.

As much as I seem upset about the outcome of our local pro team (the pro part is debatable :) ), I had a wonderful Sunday spent with my family which also included me giving blood on the way home from the football game. Side benefit of being healthy and fit, the phlebotomist (person drawing the blood) loves the easy access to my veins! 😀

I had a great, long weekend and my eating certainly wasn’t the best, but that’s okay because tomorrow I go right back into my Primal/Paleo eating pattern. Plus, I made sure to take my vitamins daily to help fill in the dietary gaps. I hope your weekend was great and, as always…

Primal Fare

Can you hear that sound? That’s me patting myself on the back for making sleep a priority. :) As I’ve previously mentioned, sleep is a key factor for my health, and last night, according to my FitBit One tracker, I managed to another night of over eight hours of sleep. As a result I woke up in a great mood and ready for busy day.

I started the day as usual with my daily creatine supplement and kept my intermittent fast going by waiting until about 1pm for my first meal, except for a couple of cans of Celsius throughout the morning. Like yesterday, I had a very busy workday that lasted until 6:30pm (even though I though this short, holiday week might be light).

Eggs and bacon for lunch, leftover steak, grilled asparagus with a baked potato for dinner–quite a clean, Primal/Paleo eating day. I only wish someone in the house hadn’t eaten the spinach because I wanted to make a green smoothy. :( No worries, I made sure to take my daily vitamin supplement per usual.

One more work day for me and then turkey and football so, as always…

Green Smoothy Returns

Vitamix-green-smoothyLast week’s schedule prevented me from firing up the trusty Vitamix but today the green smoothy made a comeback! Drinking these smoothies is an important diet “hack” that allows me to consume large portions of leafy green and other veggies and fruits in a whole form (not juicing) that I probably would not otherwise–see this post for details. For example, today’s smoothy included two cups of baby spinach and two cups of baby Kale PLUS and entire avocado along with a bunch of other ingredients (see diary at below).

These concoctions paired with my daily vitamin regime just make me feel healthy! It doesn’t matter to me if the benefits to my body are real or placebo, what matters is how I feel and perform. I sure hope you are having a great weekend and, as always…

Mid-Week Lifting

Hump day means getting to the gym early and getting my mid-week workout done. As I do every morning, I used my Ketonix breath analyzer which showed my body in a ketogenic state–that’s seven consecutive days in ketosis. Per usual, I took my 5g dose of creatine, dropped my daughter off at the bus stop and headed for the gym. On the way I drank a can of Celsius (love the caffeine) and my pre-workout BCAAs which help me facilitate working out in a fasted state.

Lunch consisted of a tasty Greek salad with blackened salmon and dinner was leftover chili (which always tastes better the day after I make it). As usual, I took my daily vitamins.

We are headed toward the weekend so, as always…
