We are getting close to the end of the calendar year and I’ve had a couple of weeks without business travel. That means I started a new cycle of StrongLifts Advanced last week and today I was able to do the Monday workout for Week #2 today…which is actually a Monday! :) The program lifts today were squats, bench press, and Pendlay rows. The first four weeks are lower weights with higher reps volume.

I hope to get all three workouts in this week–as always…

Did not get a great night of sleep so I woke up a little tired and stressed. Big meeting today (that went well) and then a couple of hours in the car traveling home. Did a fairly good job on sticking with my version of Primal/Paleo eating while also keeping with the intermittent fasting routine.

Really looking forward the upcoming weekend for some stress relief–as always…

Lot’s of stress today on the job front today–I think I’m doing a decent job of handling it. Super busy day as I had to travel for work, so I ended up eating some nuts for lunch while driving and then a late dinner. So, it was basically a one meal day. As I’ve pointed out before, since I have significantly dropped my carbohydrate intake and, theoretically, I no longer rely on a constant supply of glucose (blood sugar), I don’t suffer the normal “low blood sugar” symptoms, like headaches, having light-head and dizzy spell, etc.

Today it seemed like I couldn’t get enough protein. My guess is the heavy weight lifting has something to do with it! What I love about my version of Primal/Paleo eating is I just listen to my body and eat what it is hungry for.

Hitting the road for work again, so I’ll post later this week and, as always…

Workout: November 3, 2015

If you follow along, you probably know my job has caused me to workout when I can (due to travel) instead of a consistent Monday, Wednesday, Friday cadence. This inconsistency isn’t great, and I think it has led to some loss in strength. For instance, I hit a deadlift PR of 345 lb. on previous StrongLifts Advanced cycle, and I have consistently been failing on this cycle at 310 lb. Today I tried to pull 310 lb., didn’t get the weight off the ground, and then had to drop to my knees as I felt like I was going to pass out!

I’m not stress because I still feel like I had a great workout! As always…

Sugar is an addictive drug to me. We didn’t have a large Halloween turn out at our house and so I’ve been sucking down the leftover candy–not good! :( I woke bolted awake at 3am this morning, unable to sleep, worried about all sorts of things including work, am I saving enough money for retirement, and why can’t stop eating sugar. šŸ˜‰

The good news is, despite lots of business travel, I managing to get to the gym regularly, which helps combat this stress. As always…

Workout: October 30, 2015

Oh man! Woke up this morning at 3am to fly home from Indianapolis–I very easily could have skipped hitting the gym today. I’m so glad I made the right choice because I had a great workout featuring the deadlift and standing overhead press. I’m still loosely following my StrongLifts Advanced program with modifications due to travel and injuries.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween weekend and, as always…

I hit the road again for work again and, as usual, I felt some minor travel stress. I did an okay job on the eating front, somewhat following my version of Primal/Paleo eating. I had a long layover between flights and I used that time to walk around the airport and, as a result I exceeded my goal of walking 5 miles.

Workout: October 25, 2015

I did my first workout in my new gym and I had a great time doing deadlifts and standing overhead press, after doing my normal warm up consisting of foam rolling, stretching, body weight squats, and some shoulder work. I’m doing my best to stick with the StrongLifts Advanced program given my recent business travel.

I might be sore for a couple of days :) As always…

My travels for work this week took me to an old 4-H camp in rural Georgia for a conference–internet access was inconsistent to say the least. That’s why I haven’t posted in a few days. I’m glad to be home for the weekend as I need some time to relax and recharge. Today I got back to intermittent fasting, eating my first meal of the day at noon and had my last food before 8pm.

I really did nothing but sit on the couch today with the sole purpose of shedding the built up stress from the week. The dog and I lounged around all day and even got a couple of short naps in during the afternoon–I clearly needed to catch up on sleep.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and, as always…
