The relatives are gone. Most of the holiday treats have been consumed. It’s time for me to get back on track from a dietary perspective. Today I pretty much followed my version of Primal/Paleo eating and it felt good!

I hope everyone is ready to start the new year motivated to change their health for the better and, as always…

After a decent night’s sleep, I woke up with some stress as today I had to travel to the court house for jury duty. Most of the stress revolved around the possibility of telling a judge I needed to travel for business Wednesday to Friday and how that would be received. All the stress was for not because I was never called to be part of a panel and spent the entire day sitting in a chair. The downside is that I did not come close to hitting my steps goal for the day. Now I could have hit the gym or taken a walk in the evening, but for some reason the motivation to do anything had left me. Funny how sitting in a chair can exhaust me!

Did fairly well on my eating with a salad for lunch and leftover chili for dinner. I hope everyone’s work week started off in a positive fashion and, as always…

Not Great Stats

As good as my stats were yesterday, today was not great. With only about 6.5 hours of sleep, I neglected my water intake, ate fast food, and didn’t come close to my steps goal. On top of that, I should have hit the gym after work and just didn’t feel motivated, so I skipped it.

Tomorrow can only be better so, as always…

At least I showed Up

Ever have one of those days in the gym where you just aren’t into it? That was me today. My shoulders hurt for some reason and I just didn’t feel great, BUT at least I showed up! :)

The good news is that I put a little bit of weights on the bar for some back squats with no pain–the bad news is my shoulder really hurt bad on Pendlay rows.

I’m glad I made the effort to workout–as always…

Friday Night In The Gym

Many times after a long work week I don’t feel like hitting the gym after work on Friday–I’m tempted to skip due to mental and physical fatigue. No today! For some reason I was itching to get to gym after work and hit the weights. I think maybe the reason is that, according to my FitBit Surge, I got over ten hours of sleep last night (caught up after a few nights with very little sleep).

Whatever the reason, tonight I did the Week #7 workout for my current StrongLifts Advanced cycle which included squats, bench press, and Pendlay rows. I started with my normal warm up consisting of foam rolling, stretching, body weight squats, and front squats.

I hope everyone was able to spend time in the gym this week and, as always…

So the coolest thing happened to me toward the tail end of today’s workout–I just have to relate. Three teenagers moved near me to do an exercise while I rested between sets of OHP. One of asked me how old I am and I smiled and turned the question back on them, “Well, how old do you think I am?” The girl in the group said she thought I was in my “mid to late thirties.” :)

When I told them I was 50, they could not believe it. Now here’s the good part…one of the boys said, “My dad just turned 50 and I sure wish he would work out like you do. I’m going to bring him in here so he can see you workout.” I told he didn’t have to drag him in to the gym, he could show him this blog!

This little scenario is why I decided to do the blog. Kids, if you are reading this, I sure hope your dad get’s some little inspiration or motivation and, as always…
