Things have been stressful in the work department the past couple of weeks. This weekend, starting with Friday night, I completely went off rails from a food perspective including copious amounts of Chinese food, gallons of alcohol, and other nasty things. Today I righted the ship nutritionally AND I got a great workout in!

I’m really trying to stick with my version of Primal/Paleo eating, but I am struggling with consistency. :(

I hope everyone is keeping the stress low and the nutrition high and, as always…

I had another long car trip today as I drove from Tallahassee back to Florida–about five hours driving a rental car. Given enough time, I truly believe I would have stopped at Chipotle and enjoyed my usual, healthy salad. However, today I literally had to leave a meeting and jump on the highway to make it back to Tampa in time for my evening event. The consequence is I made fast-food drive-through runs to save time and, if that’s not bad enough, grabbed the worst, sugar-laden, processed crap known to man to munch on while stopping for gas.

Yeah, I’m not proud of my lack of will power, but nothing I can do about it now, so I’m trying not to stress (I say “trying” because chocolate-covered Twinkies are probably not very nutritious 😉 and I feel like I might die after eating them!).

The good news is I made it to my destination on time, without a getting a ticket, and in one piece. As always…

I made it to Friday and, more importantly, I lived to write this after eating four donuts yesterday. :) In fact, I not only survived my dietary lapse, I tested my body first thing the morning after and, despite a huge sugar and carbohydrate intake, my body tested in ketosis. Yeah, that’s right, I’m still a fat burning beast even though I made an unfortunate food choice.

There’s a huge lesson for me in this: health is a marathon not a sprint. I’m going to eat donuts now and then…I want to eat donuts and pizza and drink beer now and then. But to maintain my health, I want to limit these “treats” as much as possible.

Let’s enjoy life folks and do it in a healthy way–as always…

Baseball Food Rocks!

8-29-2015-featured

Caught up on some needed sleep last night and woke up in a great mood because today our family made a trip to the ballpark to see the Rays play. My eating plan for the day was throw nutrition out the window and eat all the great junk food associated baseball including beer, hot dogs, beer, popcorn, beer, pretzels, beer, cracker jack, and of course, beer.

I executed my plan and ate and drank to my heart’s content. I hope your weekend is going well and, as always…

Huge Eating Day

I woke up very early this morning (2:45am) so I only logged six hours of sleep. I caught an early flight for work this morning and travel always causes me some stress, although since I woke up so early I left the house early and didn’t have to worry about missing my flight.

flight

The big news of the day was a huge calorie and carbohydrate intake. I ate about double the number of calories I normally would and this included a bunch of food not in line with my version of Primal/Paleo eating. I think my body decided to catch up from yesterday because I only ate an estimated 1300 cals and I had a great day (from a business perspective) and decided to celebrate with wine, fast food, and sugar!!!

I am ready for the weekend–as always…

Many Hours Driving

As good as my health behavior was yesterday, today my sleep, walking, and some food choices weren’t great. :( This was partially due to having to drive two hours to a three hour meeting and then driving another two hours home. Not a lot of time for physical activity.

I did a pretty good job of sticking to my version Primal/Paleo eating with the exception of a bag of popcorn and a diet soda while driving home. Otherwise I managed to eat a bunch of vegetables!

I hope your week is progressing nicely and, as always…

Keepin’ It Keto

Woke up in a good mood even though I only got about six hours of sleep. I had a busy work day and ended up having a business lunch where the food was provided. Lunch was a pile of sandwiches, either meatball or chicken Parmesan. Man, I got some strange looks as forked the guts out of the sandwich. :)

Despite grabbing some unhealthy snacks from the convenience store while driving, I managed keep my ketosis streak alive meaning I still a fat burning beast!

Late Night Snack…Arg :(

Tons of great sleep last night so I woke up feeling great and refreshed. If you know me at all you know I am not a fan of evening workouts. Due to my schedule today, I ended up lifting late in the evening so I didn’t eat until late and then I had trouble calming down and getting to sleep. Furthermore, as I sat in front of the TV, wide awake and stressing, the bag of Doritos suddenly screamed my name. I could not silence the junk food and stuffed my face. I blame this dietary discretion on that ill-timed workout. :)

On a positive note, the rest of diet very much followed my version of Primal/Paleo eating, including a wonderful green smoothie featuring kale and lettuce from my very own garden!

Hope your week kicked off positively and, as always…

I Had A Happy Father’s Day!

I hope all the fathers had a wonderful day–I know I did. I got up early and headed out a little before 6 a.m. to my son’s swim meet and I ended the day late, a little after 11 p.m., after my daughter’s dance recital–the perfect day for this father!

But….since this was a “holiday” for me, I decided to eat lots of pure junk today, including doughnuts and fast food. Oh well, I’m not stressing about it…it’s just one day.

I did get a new fitness toy, the FitBit Surge–I am so happy! :)

What a great weekend, hope you all enjoyed it as well and, as always…

I’m Back After A Few Days Off

I flew up to Ohio last week to see relatives and take a few days off. It’s hard to believe I’ve been posting my food diary and workout log since late September pretty much every day–I needed a break!

For the most part I ate pretty clean and followed my version of Primal/Paleo as my mother eats the same way I do and she cooked for me–yum! We ate lots of great stuff from her garden, including home grown strawberries and kale. But…

There is always a “but,” right? A week ago my cousin took me to the Rush concert in Columbus where we chowed on chips and queso and I tried to drink all the booze in Ohio while prepping for the show 😀 I paid the price the following day, but I had a fantastic night!chips-and-quesorush-columbus

Even though I had a few “cheat” meals, I’m going to try to get back on track and adhere to my tagline:

Be smart in the kitchen and a beast in the gym!
