I Skipped The Pizza!
The end of busy work week–so glad it’s Friday and a workout day! Started the day with my normal, positive ketosis test, then took my 5g dose of creatine. Since my son doesn’t have morning swim practice on Fridays, I dropped my daughter off at the bus stop at 6:15am and then headed for the gym, pounding a can of Celsius and my pre-workout BCAAs on the way.
I stayed with the intermittent fasting routine and ate my first meal at noon–a couple of grass-fed beef patties with a slice of cheddar cheese and two cups of “Organic Power Greens.”
My son had a swim meet in the evening and the whole family went out to eat after–we let him pick the spot. Guess what type of restaurant he picked? Pizza I must confess that good pizza is one of the foods I miss the most with my version of a Primal/Paleo eating pattern. As soon as we walked into the place, the wonderful smell of pizza hit me and I read a sign saying gluten-free pizza now available. Temptation…
As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t believe I have a gluten sensitivity, BUT, I do view gluten as a gateway food that leads me down a bad nutritional path (see this post). Avoiding gluten as if it would make me sick is a trick I use as a tool to help me avoid grains and processed food. The trick worked for me as I picked a salad and chicken wings over pizza. Now chicken wings (these were not breaded) aren’t the most healthy choice I could make, but it’s a much better for me than pizza, gluten-free or not. By the way, the salad and wings were delicious and I didn’t miss the pizza at all! By the way, this choice allowed me to keep my estimated carbohydrate (and thus my blood sugar level) intake low–a big dietary goal of mine.
I hope you’ve got a great weekend planned and, as always…
