Birthday Party & Pizza
Eighteen years ago today my son made his earthly debut–seems like yesterday! As I’ve mentioned before, my son has a crazy schedule on Wednesdays, check this out:
- Morning Swim Practice 5:30am – 6:30am
- School all day
- Track Practice 3:30pm – 4:30pm
- Night Swim Practice 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Wow! So after all that we a family birthday dinner for him featuring his favorite: Babes Pizza, home of the Double Decker!
As you might imagine, pizza is not the type of food that fits my normal Primal/Paleo eating pattern–this pizza isn’t gluten free! 😀 Let me tell you, this pizza tasted sooooo good and, along with beer and chocolate chip cookies, these are among the top foods I miss eating.
Here’s the thing, I stuffed my face tonight with this delicious food and guess what? I didn’t collapse and die. I’m not in the hospital, clinging to life. My point is, I’m perfectly fine eating and drinking things occasionally that aren’t exactly part of my ideal diet. The trick for me is limiting these splurges so I don’t allow sugar, grains, and processed food to creep back into my diet on a regular basis.
It will be interesting to see how the high carbohydrate load–I estimated 262g today and that is probably a bit low–affects my body when I do my ketosis test tomorrow morning. My guess is this load will throw me out of my ketogenic state so stay tuned to find out…:)
As you can tell I’m confident in my self-discipline to celebrate life’s events and then switch right back into “health mode.” As always…
